Spread across 925 sq. km., the Periyar forests are tropical, a mixture of deciduous, semi-evergreen, and evergreen, relieved by patches of grassland. From herds of wild elephants roaming free to the diverse species of primates, birds, and tropical woodland animals and even the breathtaking variety of fauna, there’s plenty to uncover as you explore these lush green lands.

One thing you can be sure about is that your guides know their way around the forest like the back of their hand. This is mainly because they were, years ago, poachers themselves. However, with the government convincing them to go straight, they are now focussed on taking care of these lands and all its wild residents in collaboration with the forest department.
